Does Pass App work on all devices?

Learn which devices have the required hardware and software to support passkeys and use Pass App

Updated this week

Pass App works on most major devices, as long as they can create passkeys.

Most modern phones manufactured after 2020 support passkeys.

Older phones manufactured without a secure enclave—a hardware component that provides a secure environment for sensitive operations—can’t use passkeys or create a Pass App account.

⚠️ Pass App is only available for mobile devices.

Can I use Pass App on my device?

Here are some examples of phones that support passkeys and can be used with Pass App:

Apple devices:

  • iPhone: Devices running iOS 16 or later support passkeys. Passkeys are stored in iCloud Keychain, ensuring synchronization across all Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID.

Android devices:

  • Android Phones: Devices running Android 9 or higher support passkeys. Passkeys created in Chrome on Android are stored in Google Password Manager, allowing synchronization across devices where the user is signed in with their Google account.

Samsung Galaxy devices:

  • Devices equipped with Samsung Pass or Samsung Wallet support passkeys. These apps are only available on devices running compatible Android versions.

  • Passkeys require Android 9 or later, with broader and more seamless support available in Android 13 and newer versions.

Why can’t I create a Pass App account?

If you’ve downloaded the app and are having issues creating a passkey, your phone might not support passkeys.

Older phone models may not support passkeys due to hardware or software limitations. These could include:

  • iPhones running iOS versions earlier than iOS 16

  • Android phones running versions earlier than Android 9

  • Some budget or low-end smartphones with older operating systems or without a secure enclave

  • Feature phones or basic mobile phones without smart capabilities

What can I do if I can’t create a passkey?

Unfortunately, if your mobile device doesn’t support passkeys, you won’t be able to set up a Pass App wallet. However, passkeys are quickly becoming the gold standard in security—replacing passwords as the safest form of authentication—so most phones manufactured after 2020 have the software and hardware to support passkeys.
